Centennial Spartans hockey girls clout St. James Lions

GUELPH – The Centennial Spartans scored three times in each period to down the St. James Lions 9-0 in District 10 girls’ hockey play Wednesday at the Victoria Road arena.

Hannah Lawler, Kiera Lylyk and Aileigh Wilker each had two goals while singletons were added by Gabby Durst, Elizabeth Schnurr and Sophie Tonin. Lawler assisted on three of the goals while Tonin and Lylyk each had two assists and Rachael Douglas, Wilker and Durst had one each.

With two games to go in the regular season, the Spartans (7-3-0-0) can finish no lower than third and still have a shot at surpassing the Ross Royals (8-1-1-0) for second.

The Lions (0-10-0-1) will finish either sixth or seventh. They’re tied with the Guelph CVI Green Gaels (0-9-1-0) with one point apiece although the Gaels have a game in hand.

Centennial is to play the Centre Wellington Falcons (10-0-1-0) Monday and Lourdes Crusaders (5-6-0-0) Wednesday while GCVI is to play Ross Thursday and St. James Wednesday.
