Centennial Spartans move to first with shutout victories

GUELPH — The Centennial Spartans climbed to the top of the District 10 high school girls’ hockey league standings after scoring a pair of shutout victories Thursday.

The Spartans blanked the Orangeville Bears 6-0 and Bishop Macdonell Celtics 8-0.

Scoring details for the win over Orangeville were not reported.

Lauren Santangelo and Natasha Cheslock scored twice apiece for Centennial while single goals were netted by Erika Gilbert, Hayley MacKenzie, Kathleen Roberts and Rachel Wooley.

Centennial leads the league at 8-1-0-0 while the Centre Wellington Falcons are second at 7-2-0-0. They’re followed by the Ross Royals at 7-3-0-0, Guelph CVI Green Gaels at 6-4-0-0, Bishop Mac at 2-6-0-0, St. James Lions at 2-8-0-0 and Orangeville Bears at 0-8-0-0.

Annie Lambkin, Aniela Breen, Courtney Phillips and Olivia Sarabura each had a goal and an assist for Ross while Lauren Stevens had two assists.

Lorraine Vandermyden had a hat trick for GCVI while Emily Harron gathered an assist.
