Centennial volleyball girls win to place sixth in senior league

GUELPH – The Centennial Spartans secured a sixth-place finish as they wrapped up their District 10 high school senior girls’ volleyball league’s regular season with a 3-0 sweep of the Lourdes Crusaders at home Thursday.

The Spartans won 25-16, 25-15, 25-18.

The victory left the Spartans at 4-10 and Lourdes in eighth at 0-14.

Ross Royals finish first at 13-1 with Bishop Macdonell Celtics second at 12-2, Centre Wellington Falcons third at 9-5, St. James Lions fourth at 8-6, Guelph CVI Green Gaels fifth at 7-7, Centennial sixth, Orangeville Bears seventh at 3-11 and Lourdes eighth.

The Playoffs are to start with the quarter-finals Wednesday.

Ross is to host Lourdes, Bishop Mac is to host Orangeville, Centre Wellington is to host Centennial and St. James is to host GCVI.

All games are to start at 4 p.m.

Winners get a week to prepare for the semifinals that are set for Feb. 19 while the final is to go at the University of Guelph Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Junior

The Ross Royals completed an undefeated season with a 3-0 sweep of the St. James Lions Thursday.

The Royals won 25-17, 26-24, 25-20.

Ross finished first at 14-0 and was followed by the Guelph CVI Green Gaels at 11-3, St. James at 9-5, Centennial Spartans and Bishop Macdonell Celtics both at 7-7, Centre Wellington Falcons at 4-10 and Orangeville Bears and Lourdes Crusaders both at 2-12.

The quarter-finals are to go Wednesday with Ross hosting Lourdes, GCVI hosting Orangeville, St. James hosting Centre Wellington and Centennial hosting Bishop Mac.

The game at Centennial is to start at 4:15 p.m. while the other three are to begin at 4 p.m.

The semifinals are slated for Feb. 19 and the final is to be played at the University of Guelph Feb. 21 starting at 6 p.m.
