Centre Dufferin grabs another first-place finish in senior hoops

PALMERSTON – The Centre Dufferin Royals nailed down a first-place finish in the District 4 high school senior boys’ basketball league with a 94-33 trouncing of the Norwell Varsity Reds Wednesday.

It’s the third consecutive first-place finish for the Royals who are looking for their third consecutive league title.

The result actually locked all four teams in the league into their final positions.

The Royals lead at 5-0 and are followed by the Wellington Heights Wolverines at 3-2, Emmanuel Christian Eagles at 2-4 and Norwell at 0-4.

Norwell can mathematically tie Emmanuel Christian, but the Eagles will win the tie-breaker thanks to two wins over the Varsity Reds.

Mark Taylor led the Royals with a 20-point outing Wednesday while Dashon Baptiste added 14.

Adam Chittick had 10 for Norwell while Xavier Guevarra followed with eight.

The league has two games left in its regular season, both involving the Varsity Reds. Norwell is to play at Wellington Heights Monday and Centre Dufferin Wednesday.

The league’s semifinal is set for Feb. 19.

Centre Dufferin 64 Norwell 37

Aaron Cunningham led Centre Dufferin with 15 points while D’Andre Wayne had 14.

Micah Sumner and Blake Skerritt each scored eight for Norwell.


Erin 45 Wellington Heights 32

Alexandros Vritsios connected for 16 points for Erin while Ethan Paquette followed with 10.

Lucas Fidler had 16 for Wellington Heights and Jack Weiser netted seven.
