Centre Dufferin keeps grip on first in senior hoops

ERIN – The Centre Dufferin Royals can wrap up first place with a victory Wednesday on the final day of the District 4 high school senior girls’ basketball league’s regular season.

The Royals kept a win ahead of the Westside Thunder with a 36-16 victory over the Erin Raiders Monday.

Shannon Bury had 12 points for Centre Dufferin while Brooke Rutledge added 10 and Taylor Bury chipped in with eight.

Taylor Paquette and Sophia Basile each netted four for Erin.

Centre Dufferin leads the standings at 8-1 with one game to go. Westside is second at 7-2 and is followed by the Wellington Heights Wolverines at 5-4, Emmanuel Christian Eagles at 4-5, Erin at 3-6 and Norwell Varsity Reds at 0-9.

The Royals are to play Wellington Heights Wednesday while Westside is to play Emmanuel Christian.

 

Wellington Heights 34 Emmanuel Christian 24

Rebekah Sales had 16 points for Wellington Heights while Marissa Cottingham collected eight.

Tessa VanVeen had eight for Emmanuel Christian with Nicole Van der Meulen netted four.

 

Westside 46 Norwell 20

Leah vanderByl led Westside with 20 points.

Kelsey Walker had six for Norwell.

Centre Dufferin 36 Erin 11

Franny McGowan hit for 15 points for Centre Dufferin while Tashlynn Jackson had nine.

Maddie Eisner had six for Erin while Mesha Morgan picked up three.

 

Wellington Heights 28 Emmanuel Christian 19

Sydney Iles connected for 10 points for Wellington Heights while Alyssa Aitken had five.

McKayla VanEeide had six for Emmanuel Christian and Kaitlyn Niezen followed with four.
