Centre Dufferin locks down top spot in D4 senior hoops

FERGUS – The Centre Dufferin Royals clinched a first-place finish in the District 4 high school senior girls’ basketball league with a 53-37 win over the Emmanuel Christian Eagles.

Tejay Matthews and Jaden Hamilton-El hit for 14 points apiece for Centre Dufferin.

Brayden Taekema had 12 for Emmanuel Christian and Aaron Westrik contributed eight.

The Royals have won all seven of their league games while Emmanuel Christian is second at 5-2. Erin Raiders are at 3-4, Wellington Heights Wolverines at 2-4 and Norwell Varsity Reds at 0-7.

The league’s regular season is to end Thursday.

 

Junior

Centre Dufferin 86 Emmanuel Christian 39

T. Crawford led Centre Dufferin with 25 points and Abel Sales had 15.

Curtis Vanwoudenberg collected 15 for Emmanuel Christian and Alexander Thalen and Cameron Vanwoudenberg chipped in with 10 apiece.

Centre Dufferin’s unbeaten in junior, too, as the win was the ninth in nine league games for the Royals.

Westside Thunder are at 8-2 while all others are below the .500 winning mark – Wellington Heights at 3-5, Erin at 3-6 and Norwell and Emmanuel Christian each at 2-7.
