Centre Dufferin Royals after A/AA girls’ rugby bronze

COBOURG – The District 4/10 champion Centre Dufferin Royals of Shelburne will be playing for bronze Wednesday at the OFSAA provincial high school A/AA girls’ rugby championship tournament.

The Royals are to face the La Salle Black Knights of Kingston in the bronze-medal match.

Centre Dufferin suffered a 5-0 loss to the St. Mary of Cobourg in a semifinal Tuesday.

That loss was the first of the tournament for the Royals who had won both of their matches in preliminary pool play Monday as they defeated the Streetsville Tigers 25-10 and the Courtice Cougars 24-7.

The Holy Cross Hurricanes of Peterborough and St. Mary are to play in Wednesday’s gold-medal championship game.

The teams in the medal games were seeded in the top four prior to the tournament with Holy Cross first, St. Mary second and Centre Dufferin third.
