Centre Dufferin rugby girls open playoffs with win

SHELBURNE – The Centre Dufferin Royals advanced to the District 4/10 high school girls’ rugby semifinals with a quarter-final victory Wednesday.

The defending champion Royals downed the Bishop Macdonell Celtics 27-5 in Wednesday’s lone playoff game.

Centre Dufferin scored five tries in the match while the Celtics had one.

Individual scoring details were not reported.

The Royals finished the regular season second in Pool A at 2-1-0 while the Celtics were third in Pool B at 1-2-0.

The other three quarter-finals are to be played Thursday.
