Centre Dufferin senior hoops boys keep their unbeaten mark

SHELBURNE – The Centre Dufferin Royals kept their grip on first place in the District 4 high school senior boys’ basketball league with a 61-47 victory over the Westside Thunder Wednesday.

The win was the fifth in as many league outings for Centre Dufferin while the loss dropped the third-place Thunder to 3-2.

Wellington Heights Wolverines are second at 4-2 while the Norwell Varsity Reds and Emmanuel Christian Eagles are tied for fourth at 1-5.

Mark Taylor had 14 points for Centre Dufferin while Brandon Powell added 11.

Jonathan Lyons netted a game-high 15 for Westside while Caleb Horn followed with 14.

The victory was the eighth in a row in league play for the Royals who won their final three games last year. Their last loss was almost a year ago when they fell 69-59 to Westside in Orangeville, Jan. 12, 2017.


Wellington Heights 50 Norwell 33

Eli McDougall-Cook struck for 11 points for Wellington Heights while Brayden Allen contributed nine.

Peter Hildebrandt collected nine for Norwell and Blair Butchart gathered eight.



Centre Dufferin 58 Erin 47

Jaden Hamilton-El paced Centre Dufferin with 11 points while Sarim Qureshi chipped in with 10.

Colden Reay struck for 28 for Erin.


Wellington Heights 58 Norwell 23

Brody Leblanc had nine points to lead Wellington Heights while Ethan Gibson added eight and Brendan Towell netted seven.

Xavier Guevarra had 10 for Norwell and Owen Troyer added five.
