Centre Dufferin to host D4 basketball finals

SHELBURNE – The Centre Dufferin Royals will be looking for their first sweep of the District 4 high school boys’ basketball championships since 2015 and their third overall when they host the championship doubleheader Tuesday.

The Centre Dufferin teams enter the final fresh off one-sided wins in the semifinals Friday.

Centre Dufferin defeated the Erin Raiders 102-17 in senior and dropped the Wellington Heights Wolverines 91-20 in the junior semifinals.

Mark Taylor connected for 26 points for the Royals in the senior match while Brandon Powell had 13 and Jaden Hamilton-El had 12. Ethan Smith netted eight for Erin.

N. Isaac led Centre Dufferin with 22 points in the junior match while Davis had 15 and T. Crawford added 14.

Brandon Towell collected seven points for Wellington Heights while Carson Muir had six.

In the other senior semifinal, Wellington Heights surprised the Emmanuel Christian Eagles 44-31. J. Bouman had 14 points for Wellington Heights and A. Needham added 10.

Brayden Taekema gathered 11 points for Emmanuel Christian Seth Haarlar collected seven.

In the other junior semifinal, Erin dropped Westside 55- 36.

Colden Reay had 45 points for Erin.
