Centre Wellington captures OMHA bantam AE2 crown
MERRITTON – The Centre Wellington Fusion claimed the Ontario Minor Hockey Association’s bantam AE2 crown Sunday afternoon when they defeated Garden City Merritton 4-2 at the Merritton arena.
That win gave the Fusion a 6-2 victory in the six-point series.
The Fusion had opened the series with a 5-1 win at the Elora and District Community Centre March 16 and Garden City Merritton responded with a 3-2 win at Merritton the following day. Centre Wellington reclaimed the lead in the series with a 6-2 win at Fergus Saturday.
The championship is Centre Wellington’s first in the category as the Fusion had never reached the provincial final in bantam AE2 before.
Midget A
The Fusion knotted their six-point OMHA midget A championship series with the Woolwich Wildcats following a 3-2 victory Sunday at Elmira.
That result squared the series 4-4.
The Fusion had taken the opening game 3-2 at Fergus March 16 before Woolwich responded with a 5-0 win at Elmira March 17 and a 2-1 victory at Fergus Saturday night.
The teams are to meet Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex for Game 5.
If Game 6 is necessary, and that would only happen if Game 5 finishes in a tie, it is slated for Friday at 8:30 p.m. at Elmira.
