Cormier gets shutout as Gryphon hockey men blank RMC

KINGSTON – Evan Cormier turned aside 31 shots to record the shutout as the Guelph Gryphons blanked the RMC Paladins 4-0 in OUA men’s hockey league play Saturday at Kingston’s Constantine Arena.

The Gryphs scored once in the first period and twice in the second for their second win in Kingston in as many days. They defeated the Queen’s Gaels 7-1 Friday night at the Kingston Memorial Centre.

Connor Bramwell led the Gryphs with two goals and an assist while Nick Boyer and Scott Simmonds also scored. Single assists were awarded to Cody Thompson, Matt Kenney, Jesse Saban, Zach McFadden, Stephen Templeton and Seth Swenson.

Brad Van Schubert took the loss in the RMC net despite making 49 saves.

The Gryphs were 1-for-3 on their power play and they held RMC scoreless on four power plays.

The win leaves the Gryphs at 2-1-2 while RMC falls to 2-4-0 with the loss.

Guelph is to play the NCAA’s Cornell Big Red Sunday at 4 p.m. in an exhibition game at Ithaca, N.Y.

Next league game is Friday when they’re to host the Carleton Ravens (2-1-2) at 7:30 p.m. at the Gryphon Centre.
