Coulter’s goals lift Mount Forest Patriots to win over Walkerton
MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots scored the final two goals of the game to edge the Walkerton Hawks 3-1 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
The game was the home opener for the Patriots and they responded for the win as Hayden Coulter scored both of Mount Forest’s third-period goals.
The first period was a scoreless affair while William Black of the Patriots netted the only goal of the second period.
Owen Torrie pulled Walkerton even with an unassisted goal 35 seconds into the third period.
Coulter put the Patriots ahead for good 41 seconds after Torrie’s goal and Coulter added the game’s final goal just over five minutes after his first goal.
Ryley Cribbin assisted on both of Coulter’s goals while Jack Birkett, Nathan Bolger, Luke Eurig and Riley Torrie each had one assist in the game.
The Patriots outshot Walkerton 48-31 and neither team managed a power-play goal, Mount Forest on four power plays and Walkerton on one.
Aidan Quish had 30 saves for the win in the Patriots’ net while Mathew Donnelly had 45 saves for Walkerton.
The win evens Mount Forest’s record at 1-1-0-0 while Walkerton falls to 0-2-0-0.
The Patriots are to play the Hanover Barons (1-0-0-1) at Hanover’s P and H Centre Friday at 8 p.m.
