Creeks connect to nip Burlington in 10th inning

GUELPH — The Guelph Silvercreeks scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as they edged the Burlington Bulls 8-7 in Central Ontario junior baseball play Friday night at Hastings Stadium.

The Creeks had led 5-1 after the second inning and 7-4 after the fourth before Burlington battled back to force extra innings. Jacob Shackell’s single in the 10th drove in Brodey Hlushko with the winning run.

Jason Boulanger picked up the win as he pitched the final 2 2/3 innings for the locals. Jayce Mackenzie started and went six innings before being relieved by Aiden Cvetich who pitched 1 1/3 innings.

Connor Humphrey connected for three hits for the Creeks while Tyler Stoltz, Shackell and Darren Dwyer each had two.

The win was the fourth in as many COBA Junior outings for the Creeks who are to play the Mississauga North One Panthers Tuesday at Mississauga’s Meadowvale Park. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Those two teams are to meet again June 5 at Hastings Stadium beginning at 7:30 p.m.
