Creeks’ first win a blanking of Hamilton

GUELPH – The Guelph Silvercreeks collected their first win of the season as they handed the Hamilton Junior Cardinals an 11-0 blanking Wednesday night in Inter-County Baseball Association U22 play at Hastings Stadium.

Four Guelph pitchers combined to hold Hamilton scoreless and to a single hit.

Spencer Bertelson, Hayden Zweig and Matthew Cutten each tossed two innings while Ashton Oakes had a one-inning outing. Zweig and Cutten each had three strikeouts while Bertelson had two and Oakes one.

Left fielder Alex Camilo went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base while Arthur Kowara went 1-for-3, his hit being a double. He also drove in three runs while Ryan Kush was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

The Creeks scored 10 runs in the first inning, their at bat lasting 35 minutes. Of those runs, two were walked in with the bases loaded and another two scored on wild pitches.

The win came a week after the Creeks had tied the Waterloo Tigers 4-4 in their season opener.

The Creeks are to play the St. Thomas Tomcats at Emslie Field in St. Thomas Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
