
Creeks score nine in first in win over Stratford
GUELPH – The Guelph Silvercreeks wasted little time gaining control of their Intercounty Baseball Association 22U game with the Stratford Nationals Wednesday night at Hastings Stadium.
The Creeks scored nine runs in the first inning in a 13-2 victory in a game that was limited to six and a half innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

The hosts also scored three runs in the third inning and one in the fourth while Stratford had single runs in the fifth and seventh innings.
The Creeks clobbered 13 hits in the game and limited Stratford to three.
Garrett Thornton was the winning pitcher as he yielded a single hit and struck out three in three scoreless innings. Zach Ashworth pitched two scoreless innings and gave up a hit. He also had a strikeout.
Eric Blamauer went 3-for-4 at the plate, scored two runs and drove in a run while Aidan Mendonza went 2-for-4, scored three runs and knocked in two. Ashton Patterson also went 2-for-4 with three runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Owen Ellis went 1-for-2, the hit being a double and he scored a run and also had an RBI. Alec MacIntyre went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI while Arthur Kowara went 1-for-5, scored two runs and knocked in three.
The Creeks lead the eight-team league at 5-1-1 while the St. Thomas Tomcats and Kitchener Junior Panthers are both at 4-2-0. They’re followed by the Waterloo Tigers at 3-3-1, Stratford at 3-4-1, Brantford Junior Red Sox at 3-4-0, Welland Junior Jackfish at 1-3-1 and Hamilton Junior Cardinals at 0-4-0.
Next on the schedule for the Creeks is a doubleheader with Welland Sunday at Hastings Stadium. First game is to start at 1 p.m.
