Creeks slip by Hamilton in COBA junior

GUELPH ā€“ The Guelph Silvercreeks scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to edge the Hamilton Cardinals 8-7 in Central Ontario junior baseball league play Wednesday night at Hastings Stadium.

The Creeks, who had given up a run in the top of the first inning, came back to lead 6-1 after four innings of play. However, Hamilton scored four runs in the fifth and one in seventh to tie it. The Creeks went ahead again with a run in the eighth but Hamilton pulled even with a run in the top of the ninth.

Garret Morgan was the starting pitcher for the Creeks and Peter Zytner and Jayce McKenzie saw time on the mound in relief. They held Hamilton to six hits, all singles, and had eight strikeouts. However, the Creeks committed five errors in the game.

The Creeks smacked 13 hits in the game. Noah McKillop connected for a double and two singles while Nic Lannuti hit three singles. Trystan Dennis had a triple and a single and was twice hit by a pitch. Ryan Malyk collected two singles while Jordon Inkol and Graham Wilmot each hit a double and Scott Seifried and Blaise Shaw each had a single.

Guelph has three wins in its last 11 league outings and fourth at 10-9-0 on the season. Hamilton is fifth at 9-8-1.

The Creeks have three games left in the regular season starting with a game against the Dundas Chiefs (4-8-0) at Dundas Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
