Crusaders claim D4/10 ultimate Frisbee title

GUELPH – The Lourdes Crusaders captured the District 4/10 ultimate Frisbee championship at College Heights Wednesday.

The Crusaders defeated the Guelph CVI Green Gaels 9-7 in the championship match.

Both teams had scored semifinal victories with Lourdes defeating the Centre Wellington Falcons 12-7 and GCVI dropping the Centennial Spartans 10-2.

Both the Crusaders and Gaels had finished atop their three-team pools to gain byes in the semifinals.

The quarter-finals were crossover affairs with second place in one pool playing the third-place finisher in the other pool.

Centennial downed the Orangeville Bears 12-1 in one quarter-final while Centre Wellington defeated the Westside Thunder 9-4 in the other.

Both Lourdes and Centennial finished Pool A round-robin play with 1-0-1 records. Lourdes got first and the bye with a bigger gap between its points scored and its points allowed. The Crusaders and Spartans tied 6-6 while Lourdes defeated Westside 10-3 and the Spartans downed the Thunder 11-6.

GCVI won both of its games in Pool B while Centre Wellington went 1-1-0 and Orangeville was 0-2-0.

The Gaels defeated the Bears 12-5 and the Falcons 11-2 while Centre Wellington downed Orangeville 9-4.

Top finishers advance to Monday’s CWOSSA ultimate festival at Victoria Park in Fergus.
