Crusaders, Falcons remain in tie for second in senior hoops

GUELPH – The three-way tie for second place in the District 10 high school senior boys’ basketball league standings became a two-way stalemate as the Lourdes Crusaders and Centre Wellington Falcons recorded victories Tuesday.

Lourdes handed the St. James Lions a 46-39 setback, knocking the Lions out of the tie for the runner-up spot.

Centre Wellington slipped by the Ross Royals 67-61 in their first of a 3-in-3 to complete the 2018 portion of the schedule. The Falcons are to host the Bishop Macdonell Celtics Wednesday in a game postponed earlier in the month due to equipment malfunction at the gym in Fergus. Centre Wellington is also to host Lourdes Thursday on the first day of the second half of the season.


Lourdes 46 St. James 39

Kevin Martinez led the Crusaders with 16 points and was followed by Sebastian Porcellato with 12 and Abraham Kayeye with 10.

Matt Sanvido had 16 for St. James and Alex Garbuio added 13.


Orangeville 60 Bishop Macdonell 33

The Bears recorded their second win of the season while the Celtics remained winless.

Rowan Steele hit for 24 points for Orangeville while Jeriah Valladares netted 14 and Bilraj Binepal had 12.

Justin Faienza collected 11 for Bishop Mac and Luca DeSando had nine.

Orangeville 54 Bishop Macdonell 45

Orangeville remained in a tie for fourth with the win while Bishop Mac is seventh.

Eric Cole hit for 26 points for Orangeville and Cole Purdell-Lewis chipped in with seven.

Nathan Perry had 16 for Bishop Mac and Ramez Kridli contributed 12.


St. James 85 Lourdes 79

St. James also stayed in the tie for fourth with the win.

David Farrelly struck for 37 points while Kelvin Nkubito added 20 and Adam MacPherson had 14.

Tyler Blais had 35 for Lourdes and Alex Basciano had 13.


Centennial 64 Guelph CVI 49

Centennial remained undefeated with the win.
