Crusaders in possession of third in senior hoops

GUELPH – The Lourdes Crusaders head into the break for exams in sole possession of third place in the District 10 high school senior boys’ basketball league standings.

The Crusaders won for the third time in 2019 as they downed the Guelph CVI Green Gaels 53-37 Thursday at Lourdes.

GCVI was without the services of the players who normally carry the ball up the court and that presented problems, especially in the first half.

The Crusaders took advantage as they jumped out to a 16-7 lead by the end of the first quarter and a 28-15 lead at halftime. Lourdes was up 44-31 at the end of the third quarter.

Kevin Martinez led Lourdes with 17 points while Geeth Kenneth had 13, Will Vandenheuvel nine and Sebastian Porcellato seven.

Aidan Carroll hit for 11 for GCVI and Rylan Ninaber had nine and Aiden Cvetich added five.

Centre Wellington Falcons lead the league at 11-1 and they are followed by the Centennial Spartans at 10-2, Lourdes at 8-4, St. James Lions at 6-5, Ross Royals at 5-6, GCVI at 4-7, Orangeville Bears at 2-9 and Bishop Macdonell Celtics at 0-12.

Ryan Kielar and Cole Miller each collected 17 points for Ross.

Kobi Griffin-Randall led Bishop Mac with 13 while Jacob McWhiter had six.

 

Centre Wellington 76 Orangeville 58

Johnny Barclay struck for 24 points for Centre Wellington and Keenen Lochert chipped in with 20.

Rowan Steele had 22 for Orangeville and Jeriah Valladares netted 13.

Cole Purdell-Lewis paced Orangeville with 15 points while Keelan Steele followed with 14.

Owen Fox had a game-high 19 for Centre Wellington and Hunter Matthewson contributed 18.

 

Guelph CVI 65 Lourdes 64 (OT)

GCVI won on a buzzer-beater at the end of the overtime period. Tennessee Tremain collected 15 points for GCVI while Denim Helwig had 14 and Jackson Haynes had 13.

Tyler Blais led all scorers with 29 for Lourdes while Mark Fantin added 15.

 

Ross 65 Bishop Macdonell 38

Daniel Wang had 13 points for Ross while Gatlang Deng added 12 and Landon Hart had 10.

Adam McLean had 12 for Bishop Mac and Rimez Kridli collected nine.
