Crusaders split matches at OFSAA AA hoops tourney
WINDSOR – The Lourdes Crusaders split their games on the opening day of the OFSAA provincial high school boys’ AA basketball championship tournament Monday.
The Crusaders entered the tournament seeded 13th and they were edged by seventh-ranked LaSalle Black Knights of Kingston 47-43 in their opening game. Lourdes turned in a big second-half effort to make the game close as they had trailed 9-6 at the end of the first quarter and 20-9 after the second. The Crusaders closed the gap to 32-28 by the end of the third quarter.
Lourdes bounced back from that loss with a 61-34 win over 20th-ranked G.W. Williams Wildcats of Aurora in their second game. The Crusaders led 23-14 at the end of the first quarter, 41-21 at halftime and 59-27 after the third quarter.
Leading scorers were not reported in any game in the provincial championship tournament.
The win puts the Crusaders into the tournament’s round of 16 against the fourth-seed Brantford Assumption Lions Tuesday at 12:30 p.m.
