Crusaders third and top AA squad in senior hoops league
GUELPH – The Lourdes Crusaders will be the highest-placed AA team at the end of the District 10 high school senior boys’ basketball league’s regular season.
The Crusaders secured that honour Tuesday with a 50-41 victory over the St. James Lions, another AA squad.
Lourdes is third in the league standings at 8-3 and the Crusaders have three games to play in the regular season. The Lions are fifth at 4-7 and also have three games to go.
The third of the three AA teams in the league, the Bishop Macdonell Celtics, are sixth at 3-8 and they also have three games to play.
Tuesday, Sebastian Porcellato led the Crusaders with 17 points while Kevin Martinez had 15 and Jacob Porcellato added eight.
David Farrelly and Josh Sims each had 12 for St. James while Michael Fonte and Kelvin Nkubito netted five apiece.
Bishop Macdonell 56 Centre Wellington 50
Bishop Mac put an end to a seven-game losing streak with the victory. Luca DeSando hit for 13 points while Matt MacEachern and Ramez Kridli contributed 12 apiece.
Johnny Barclay had 18 for Centre Wellington while Owen Fox-Kristensen collected 16 and Kelsi Mallany chipped in with 10.
Centre Wellington is tied for seventh at 2-9.
Ross 81 Orangeville 56
Ross kept its hold on second place with the win.
Malcolm Bair and Cole Miller gathered 18 points apiece while Bryce Sukhdeo added 10.
Brandon Hughes had a game-high 22 for Orangeville while Brayden Cooke had 15 and Keelan Steele gathered nine.
Ross is at 9-2 while Orangeville is tied for seventh at 2-9.
Centennial at Guelph CVI

Centennial leads the league at 10-0 while GCVI is fourth at 5-5.
Junior
Ross 65 Orangeville 60
Ross avenged its lone loss of league play with the win. Orangeville had defeated the Royals 72-60 at Ross Dec. 5.
Tuesday’s win was the seventh in a row in league play for the Royals who were led by Robert Vosper’s 34 points.
Ashton McQuaig had 20 for Orangeville while Cole Purdell-Lewis followed with 19.
Ross leads the league at 10-1 while Orangeville is second at 9-2.
Lourdes 49 St. James 26

Lourdes is fourth at 6-5 and St. James is eighth at 1-10.
Centre Wellington 57 Bishop Macdonell 55
Hunter Mathewson connected for 17 points for Centre Wellington while Grayson Davy added 11.
Ben Pigozzo had 17 for Bishop Mac and Nick Poloniato contributed nine.
Centre Wellington is fifth at 5-6 and Bishop Mac seventh at 2-9.
Centennial at Guelph CVI

Centennial entered the game at 8-2 and GCVI was at 2-8.
