D10 champion Bears in CWOSSA junior soccer semis
GUELPH – The District 10 champion Orangeville Bears reached Friday’s semifinals of the CWOSSA junior boys’ soccer championship tournament at the Gryphon Soccer Complex with a win and a tie in pool play Thursday.
The Bears defeated the Waterloo CI Vikings 2-0 and tied the St. Mary’s Eagles of Kitchener 1-1 to finish first in Pool B.
Andrew Paolucci scored all three goals for the Bears.
In the other game in the pool, St. Mary’s nipped Waterloo CI 1-0.
The Resurrection Phoenix of Kitchener finished atop Pool A with a win and a tie while the Cameron Heights Gaels of Kitchener also had a win and a tie. The D4 champion Westside Thunder of Orangeville suffered two losses.
Resurrection defeated Westside 5-0 and battled Cameron Heights to a scoreless draw while Cameron Heights blanked Westside 3-0.
The semifinals, set for Friday at 9:30 a.m., have Orangeville battling Cameron Heights on one field at the Gryphon Soccer Complex and Resurrection taking on St. Mary’s on the other.
Winners advance to the 12 p.m. final.
St. Mary’s has won the title nine times including the last two while Cameron Heights won in 2015. Orangeville and Resurrection have never won it.
