
D4 girls’ hoops titles for Royals and Eagles
SHELBURNE – The Centre Dufferin Royals and Emmanuel Christian Eagles captured District 4 high school girls’ basketball titles Monday as D4 held its playoffs at Centre Dufferin.
The host Royals won their first senior title since 2009 by doubling the Westside Thunder 40-20 in the championship match in the afternoon.
Centre Dufferin had finished the regular season in first place at 5-0 while Westside was second at 4-1, the loss being a 33-24 setback to Centre Dufferin Nov. 29.
In the morning semifinals, Centre Dufferin defeated the Wellington Heights Wolverines (defending champions as 2019 title winners) 38-28 and Westside downed the Erin Raiders 34-19.
Emmanuel Christian won its first ever D4 junior girls’ basketball title with a 22-11 win over Wellington Heights in the final.
They were the only two teams competing this year and the Eagles swept their regular-season meetings, winning 10-6 and 23-6.
Scoring details for the playoff games were not reported.
