Davidson gets another shutout win for Gryphon hockey women
WINDSOR – Alexandrea Davidson picked up her second shutout of the OUA women’s hockey season Saturday night as the Guelph Gryphons blanked the Windsor Lancers 2-0 at Windsor’s Capri Ice Complex.
The game was the second of a Guelph-Windsor OUA hockey doubleheader as the Gryphon men had edged the Windsor men 3-2 in the opening game of the twinbill.
Davidson stopped 20 shots for the shutout. The rookie has posted wins in all three of her outings this season and has allowed a single goal. Her wins have come against the Laurentian Voyageurs (5-7-0-0), Laurier Golden Hawks (1-8-1-3) and Windsor (2-9-0-1).
Saturday, the Gryphs scored twice in the first 4:01 of the second period for the win. Nicole MacKinnon and Lauren Ianni with a power-play goal accounted for the scoring while Sydney Davison, Sophie Rodenburg and Gabrielle Smyth each had an assist.
Windsor outshot the Gryphs 20-19 and both teams had five power plays, the Gryphs getting the game’s lone power-play goal.
Jaydlin Spooner took the loss in the Windsor net.
The Gryphs finish the 2019 segment of their schedule in sixth place at 6-4-1-2 while Windsor’s 12th.
The Gryphs are to start 2020 with four consecutive home games at the Gryphon Centre. They’re to play the second-place Toronto Varsity Blues (9-3-0-0) Jan. 5 at 7:30 p.m., seventh-place Queen’s Gaels (7-5-1-0) Jan. 11 at 2 p.m., Windsor Jan. 18 at 7:30 p.m. and first-place York Lions (9-4-0-1) Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. before playing four consecutive road games.
