Daws gets shutout as Storm dumps Kingston

GUELPH – Nico Daws turned aside 29 shots for his first Ontario Hockey League shutout as the Guelph Storm dropped the Kingston Frontenacs 9-0 Sunday at the Sleeman Centre.

The Storm scored four goals in the first period and added another one in the second before scoring four more in the third.

The hosts fired 35 shots on net and went 3-for-4 on their power play while Kingston was scoreless on six power plays.

Isaac Ratcliffe and Daniil Chayka scored twice apiece while single goals were added by Liam Hawel, Alexey Toropchenko, Nate Schnarr, MacKenzie Entwistle and Markus Phillips. Owen Lalonde and Hawel each had four assists while Ratcliffe, Schnarr, Dmitri Samorukov, Domenico Commisso, Nick Suzuki, Phillips, Ty Collins and Zachary Roberts had one apiece.

Brendan Bonello took the loss in net for Kingston. He had 26 saves.

The Storm is fourth in the Western Conference at 29-14-6-4 and they’re four points behind third-place Saginaw Spirit (34-14-2-2). Kingston is 10th in the Eastern Conference at 12-40-1-1.

Next up for the Storm is a game against the Western Conference-leading London Knights (37-9-5-1) Wednesday at London’s Budweiser Gardens. Game time is 7 p.m.
