Defending champ Thunder start with win and tie

ERIN – The defending champion Westside Thunder began their District 4 high school girls’ soccer season with a win and a tie Wednesday as three of the league’s teams gathered for play at Erin Public School.

The Thunder defeated the host Erin Raiders 2-1 before battling the Emmanuel Christian Eagles to a 1-1 deadlock.

Kendal Heavens and Melakee Kerkhof scored the goals for Westside.

Charlotte Cuthbertson had the lone goal for Erin.

Emmanuel Christian received a goal from Hanna VanSydenburgh.

Vanessa Russell tallied for Westside.

 

Erin 1 Emmanuel Christian 0

Norah McClinchey had the game’s lone goal.

 

Norwell 3 Wellington Heights 0

At Palmerston, Keely Franklin, Kenzie Vander Meer (in the half she played out) and Marissa Huberts hit for the goals the host Varsity Reds.

Vander Meer and Haylie Smith shared the shutout in net for Norwell.
