DeKoening gets shutout as 81’s blank Durham

DURHAM – Daniel DeKoening stopped all 36 shots fired his way to pick up the shutout as the Minto 81’s blanked the Durham Thundercats 3-0 in WOAA senior AA men’s hockey league play Friday night at the Durham Community Centre.

The 81’s scored two goals in the second and one in the third.

DeKoening stopped 19 shots in the third period alone.

Cole Scott, Caleb Warren and Adam Kawalec scored the goals while Kawalec had two assists and Shawn Lantz, Scott and Riley Cribbin each had an assist.

The 81’s were 1-for-7 on the power play while the Thundercats were scoreless on eight power plays.

Brendon Landry had 29 saves for Durham.

The win lifts the 81’s to 5-2-0-1 while the loss dropped the Thundercats to 6-5-0-1.

The 81’s are to host the Shallow Lake Crushers (3-5-0-0) Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at the Palmerston arena.
