
Dominant wins as top three in senior finish regular season
GUELPH – The teams that finished in the top three positions in the District 10 high school senior girls’ basketball league’s final standings each posted a one-sided victory to wrap up the regular season Thursday.
The Centennial Spartans downed the St. James Lions 38-15, the Guelph CVI Green Gaels dropped the Lourdes Crusaders 44-17 and the Ross Royals doubled the Bishop Macdonell Celtics 36-18.
Centennial finished first at 9-1 while GCVI was second at 8-2, Ross third at 7-3, Lourdes fourth at 3-7, Bishop Mac fifth at 3-7 and St. James sixth at 0-10.
The Spartans and Gaels are to get byes in Tuesday’s quarter-finals and are also to host semifinal matches next Thursday at 4 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.
Lourdes is to host Bishop Mac in one of the quarter-finals while St. James is to play at Ross in the other.
Dates and times of all playoff games are tentative due to the labour issues at the schools.
Guelph CVI 44 Lourdes 17
Nyssa Matthews led GCVI with 11 points while Molly Hannay had nine.
Ciara Hayne and Olivia Doucette each had six for Lourdes.
Centennial 38 St. James 15
The Spartans led 12-4 at the end of the first quarter, 20-8 at halftime and 34-13 at the end of the third quarter.
Bodhana Sivagurunathan struck for 13 points for Centennial while Natalie Cremasco had nine and Ayla Panylo added six.
Eva Wenger had seven points for St. James while Sam Griffiths, Lilly Offen, Gwen Cook and Melia Plozzer each had two.
Ross 36 Bishop Macdonell 18
Ailani Curvan led Ross with 15 points while Sierra Curvan had eight.
Hali Caspersz and A. Matthieu each netted five for Bishop Mac.
Junior Girls’ Basketball
The Orangeville Bears completed their unbeaten trek through the regular season with a 60-36 win over the Centre Wellington Falcons at Fergus Thursday.
Katie Firth hit for 24 points for Orangeville while Ayla Corrigale contributed 20.
Willow Green had 14 for the Falcons while Maggie Long chipped in with seven.
Orangeville finished atop the standings at a perfect 10-0 while the Bishop Macdonell Celtics were second at 7-3. Ross Royals were next at 5-5 and were followed by Centre Wellington at 4-6 and both the Guelph CVI Green Gaels and Centennial Spartans at 2-8.
Orangeville and Bishop Macdonell are to get byes in the quarter-finals that are scheduled for Tuesday. Centre Wellington is to host GCVI in one game while Ross is to host Centennial in the other.
Quarter-final winners are to advance to the semifinals that are scheduled for Thursday. Orangeville is to host one of the semifinals and Bishop Mac is to host the other.
Semifinal winners are to meet in the championship game that is scheduled for Nov. 12 at 12 noon at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.

Bishop Macdonell 41 Ross 21
Sydney Richardson had 19 points for the Celtics while Talya Kridli netted 13.
Sam Tesfit had 12 for Ross.
