Early goals power Patriots to victory at Kincardine
KINCARDINE – The Mount Forest Patriots scored three times in the first five minutes of the game as they downed the Kincardine Bulldogs 4-1 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at Kincardine’s Davidson Centre.
Those three early goals were the only goals of the opening period while the teams scored once apiece in the second before a scoreless third.
Michael Stefanelli scored twice for the Patriots while single goals were added by Ryley Cribbin and Jack Birkett. Chet Philips and Blair Butchart each had two assists while Hayden Coulter, Birkett, William Black and Stefanelli had one apiece.
Jordan Caskenette connected for the goal for Kincardine while Wilson Shipp and Jordan Beisel drew assists on the goal.
Kincardine outshot the Patriots 37-35 thanks to a 20-9 advantage in the third period. The Patriots went 2-for-5 on their power play and they held Kincardine scoreless on five power plays.
Mason Kameka turned aside 36 shots to get the win in the Mount Forest net while Sean Andrus had 31 saves for Kincardine.
The Patriots are second in the Pollock Division standings at 17-3-1-0. They have five games in hand on the leading Wingham Ironmen (19-5-1-1). Kincardine is fifth at 11-10-0-2.
Mount Forest is to play the seventh-place Goderich Flyers (2-19-1-0) at the Goderich Maitland Recreation Complex Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
After that, the Patriots are to play five consecutive home games at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex as they’re to host the sixth-place Walkerton Hawks (3-18-1-1) Dec. 7 at 8 p.m., Goderich Dec. 8 at 2 p.m., fourth-place Hanover Barons (12-8-0-1) Dec. 13 at 8:30 p.m. and the third-place Mitchell Hawks (14-8-0-2) on both Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. and Dec. 20 at 8:30 p.m.
