Elora Mohawks run to another victory on home floor

ELORA – The Elora Mohawks struck for seven goals in each of the first two periods as they ran to an 18-8 victory over the Owen Sound North Stars in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League play Saturday night at the Elora and District Community Centre.

The win was the third in as many outings for the Mohawks and leaves them tied for first place in the Mid West Division with the Guelph Regals. The game was Owen Sound’s season opener.

The Mohawks led 7-2 at the end of the first period and 14-5 after the second.

Sam Dramnitzke hit for four goals for the Mohawks while Nick Aitchison, Mark McIntosh, Owen Moore and Brett Harrison had two apiece. Single goals were added by Tobias Wilson, Jordan Mueller, Owen Williams, Kyle Detweiller, Matt Allen and Jack Webley.

Harrison assisted on five of the goals while Jabe Verbeek had three assists and Wilson and Allen each had two. Getting one each were Dramnitzke, McIntosh, Williams, Detweiller and Jake Bauman.

Dominic Millman had a hat trick for Owen Sound while Brayden Krueger scored twice and Carter Moran, Luke Grimoldby and Tyson Morrison tallied once each. Morrison had three assists while Grimoldby had two and Moran, Gavin Downs, Joel Coghlin, Colin Kitto, Cole Wadell, Millman and Curtis Arnold each had one.

The Mohawks outshot Owen Sound 47-31 and went 1-for-4 on their power play while the North Stars were 3-for-9 as the hosts were assessed the final five penalties of the game, all minors.

Sam Hadley had 23 saves in the Elora net while Owen Sound’s Sam Forbes had 29 saves.

The Mohawks are to host the Point Edward Pacers Sunday at 7 p.m. in their third of five consecutive home games. That game will be the season opener for the Pacers marking the fourth consecutive time the Mohawks will have faced a team in its season opener this year.
