
Elora Mohawks sunk by Hamilton’s late goals
HAMILTON – The Elora Mohawks surrendered a pair of goals in the final three and a half minutes of the game as they suffered a 10-8 loss to the Hamilton Bengals in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League play Thursday night at Valley Park Arena.
The Mohawks, who gave up the first three goals of the game, never led and trailed by as much as four goals, but battled back to tie it with four and a half minutes to go in the second period.

The loss was the second in a row for the Mohawks and left them in a three-way tie for first in the Western Conference in the final week of the regular season.
Hamilton led 3-1 at the end of the first period, 5-1 two and a half minutes into the second, and 6-5 at the end of the second.
Jabe Verbeek had a hat trick for Elora while Tobias Wilson scored twice and Sam Dramnitzke, Nick Aitchison and Brett Harrison added single goals. Dramnitzke assisted on five of the goals while Chris Rathwell and Wilson each had two assists. Getting one assist apiece were Aitchison and Owen Moore.
Cooper Day-Allison struck for four goals for Hamilton while Liam Cole added three and Nick D’Amico, Blake Booth and Cody Inness had one apiece.
Hamilton outshot the Mohawks 60-57 while neither team managed a power-play goal, Elora on six power plays and Hamilton on seven.
Nathan Whittom was charged with the loss in the Elora net. He had 50 saves while winning goaltender Karter Rominuk had 49.
The Mohawks are at 15-3-0 with two games to play while the Bengals and Windsor Clippers are both at 15-4-0 with one game to play. St. Catharines Athletics are at 14-5-0 with one game to play.
The Mohawks are to play at St. Catharines Saturday at 7 p.m. and host the Wallaceburg Red Devils (6-12-0) Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Elora and District Community Centre. Wallaceburg is in a battle with the Point Edward Pacers (4-14-0) for the final playoff berth in the conference and could be a first-round opponent for the Mohawks.
