Elora Mohawks sweep St. Catharines Spartans aside
ELORA – The Elora Mohawks completed their sweep of the St. Catharines Spartans in the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League’s Western Conference quarter-finals Wednesday when they dropped the Spartans 12-4 at the Elora and District Community Centre.
The win gave Elora a three-game sweep in the best-of-five series.
The Mohawks led 3-0 at the end of the first period with the three goals coming in a span of less than two minutes. The hosts scored six consecutive goals in the second to extend their lead to 10-4 at the end of the period.
Trent Spear struck for a hat trick for the Mohawks while Jonah White and Dawson Bolger scored twice apiece. Single goals were added by Zack Cameron, Ryan Mueller, Sam Dramnitzke, Dean Sealey and Jacob Black. Cameron assisted on four of the goals while Mueller and Brett Harrison each had three assists, Dramnitzke and Jayden Bushey had two each and Spear, White and Sealey had one apiece.
Sam LeClair scored two of the goals for Elora while Alex Gaston and Aaron Ward netted single goals. Gaston and Mitchell Geoffroy each had two assists and Blair Pachereva and LeClair had one each.
The Mohawks outshot St. Catharines 68-31 and went 3-for-10 on their power play while the Spartans went 2-for-7.
Ryan Fitzgerald picked up the win in the Elora net. He had 27 saves.
Adam Brennan was charged with the loss. He had 56 saves while Andrew Kidd gave up three goals in the 10:27 of the second period that he played. Brennan was back in net for the third period.
The Mohawks will have to wait for an opponent in the conference semifinals.
