Elora Rocks beat Thunder to move to top spot
TILLSONBURG – The Elora Rocks struck for four goals in the second period on their way to an 8-5 victory over the Tillsonburg Thunder in Western Ontario Super Hockey League play at the Tillsonburg Community Centre Saturday.
The Thunder led 3-2 at the end of the first period before the Rocks scored three in a row to start the scoring in the second period. Elora led 6-4 at the end of the second.

Chad Herron and Shaun Pickering tallied twice apiece for the Rocks while single goals were netted by Alex Utley, Zack Cameron, Michael Giacometti and Yianni Skropolis. Utley had four assists while Spencer MacCormack had three, Aaron Smith two and Herron, Cameron, Giacometti, Mark Hamilton, Jeremey Goodwin and Matteo Condotta had one apiece.
Zak McQuade had two goals and three assists for Tillsonburg while Jake Brown, Matthew Weston and Todd Ratchford each added a single goal. Brown had three assists while Weston had two and Ratchford and Christhopher Nauts each had one.
The Rocks outshot Tillsonburg 47-40.
Ed Davey was in net for the first period for the Rocks while Colin Dunne played the final two. Davey had 14 saves and Dunne had 21.
Tillsonburg also used both of its goalies in the game, changing midway through the game. Both Andre Roy and Tim Porter allowed four goals while Roy had 13 saves and Porter 26.
The Rocks lead the league at 9-1-0 and are a point ahead of the Strathroy Jets (8-0-1). Tillsonburg’s third at 5-6-0.
The Rocks and Jets are to battle Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the West Middlesex Memorial Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
