Elora Rocks doubled by Milverton in home opener

ELORA – The Elora Rocks yielded four goals in the third period as they were doubled 8-4 by the Milverton 4-Wheel Drives in their WOAA senior men’s hockey league home opener Friday night at the Elora and District Community Centre.

Milverton scored the lone goal of the first period and led 4-2 after the second.

After the Rocks took a 2-1 lead with two goals 58 seconds apart early in the second period, Milverton responded with six consecutive goals to take control.

Brendan Farrugia had a pair of goals for the Rocks while Spencer Gourlay and Corey Flemington also scored. Bradey Prosic and Lyam Cripps each had two assists while Spencer Cudney, Brett Coverdale and Gourlay had one apiece.

Brad Krysko and Winston Cestnick tallied twice each for Milverton while Andrew Brubacher, Dennis Dewar, Mike Vitelli and Evan Buehler netted single goals. Buehler, Alex Uttley and Brubacher each collected two assists while Colin Martin, Krysko and Dewar gathered one apiece.

The teams each took 40 shots on net while Milverton went 2-for-5 on its power play and the Rocks went 1-for-2.

Craig Byford started in net for the Rocks and made 24 saves before being relieved by Austin Hoegy with just less than nine minutes to go in the third period and Milverton ahead 7-2.

Brayden Bruce played the entire game for Milverton and he had 36 saves.

The Rocks drop to 1-1-0 with the loss while the game was the season opener for Milverton.

The Rocks are to host the Tavistock Royals Friday at 8:30 p.m.
