Elora Rocks fall behind early in loss to Durham

ELORA – The Elora Rocks surrendered four goals in the first period as they were dropped 5-2 by the Durham Thundercats in WOAA senior men’s hockey league play Friday night at the Elora and District Community Centre.

After Durham netted four goals in the first period, the Rocks responded with two in the second before the Thundercats scored the only goal of the third.

Trevor Lord and Kevin Tuckey scored the goals for Elora while Spencer Gourlay assisted on both of them. Andrew Whalen and Shawn Lantz each had one assist.

Mitch Betts and Jake Brown scored twice apiece for Durham while Todd Ratchford scored the other goal. Justin Graham assisted on three of the goals while Kyler Borth, Ratchford and Justin Abraham each had two assists.

Durham out shot the Rocks 39-37.

Craig Byford had 32 saves in net for the Rocks while Mathieu had 37 saves in his first outing in net for Durham.

The result leaves the Rocks (3-3-0-0) fifth in the 14-team league while Durham (2-2-0-1) is tied for sixth.

The Rocks are to play the Ripley Wolves (3-0-1-0) at Ripley Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.
