Elora Rocks hit in overtime to edge Lucknow

LUCKNOW – Andrew Whalen’s goal a minute into overtime lifted the Elora Rocks to a 5-4 victory over the Lucknow Lancers in WOAA senior men’s hockey play Saturday night at the Lucknow arena.

The winning goal was the only goal not scored in a wild first period in which the longest stretch without a goal was the first 4:34 of the match. The shortest, according to the league’s stats website, was the two seconds that separated Lucknow’s third goal and Elora’s second.

Mark Rozak had a pair of goals for the Rocks while Mason Noble and Brendan Farrugia scored the other ones. Corey Flemington assisted on four of the goals while Spencer Cudney had two assists and Whalen and Trevor Lord each had one.

Chad Simpson, Cole Pellet, Greg Scott and Cody Hamilton each had a goal for Lucknow.

Craig Byford picked up the win in net for the Rocks.

The result leaves the Rocks at 3-1-0 and Lucknow at 0-2-0.

The Rocks are to host the Minto 81’s (0-3-0) at the Elora and District Community Centre Friday at 8:30 p.m.
