Elora Rocks net goal in each period to top Strathroy

STRATHROY – The Elora Rocks scored once in each period to down the Strathroy Jets 3-1 in WOSHL play Friday night at Strathroy’s Gemini Sportsplex.

Strathroy’s goal came midway through the second.

Luke Hoelscher, Matteo Condotta and Zack Cameron scored for the Rocks. Mike Giacometti assisted on two of the goals while Cameron, Nicholas Boehmer, Chad Herron and Yianni Skropolis each had an assist.

Brandon Buck had the goal for Strathroy thanks to help from Greg Milner and Shaun Arvai.

The Jets outshot the Rocks 35-31 and the game featured three minor penalties, two to the Rocks. No power-play goals were scored.

Colin Dunne had 34 saves for Elora while Josh Diamond had 28 for Strathroy.

The win leaves the Rocks at 7-1-0-1 while Strathroy is at 4-6-0-0.

Elora is second in the nine-team league, trailing only the expansion Tilbury Bluebirds who are at 8-1-0-0. Strathroy is fifth.

The Rocks have a pair of games next week as they’re to host the Plattsville Lakers (sixth at 3-6-0-0) Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Elora and District Community Centre and play the Stratford Fighting Irish (fourth at 5-2-0-0) at Stratford’s William Allman arena Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
