Elora Rocks rally same as Guelph Storm

ELORA – The Elora Rocks fired in three goals in the third period to down the Tillsonburg Thunder 5-3 in Western Ontario Super Hockey League play Friday night at the Elora and District Community Centre.

The Rocks had scored the first two goals of the game, but Tillsonburg responded with three in a row to grab the lead late in the second period.

The victory extends Elora’s winning streak to nine games. The league-leading Rocks haven’t lost since a 7-5 setback to Tillsonburg at home Oct. 22.

Zack Cameron sparked the Rocks with a pair of goals Friday while singletons were added by Spencer MacCormack, Yianni Skropolis and Brad Krysko. MacCormack assisted on two of the goals while Jeremey Goodwin, Jacob Black, Mason Sinkledam and Charlie Stephens each had one assist.

Scoring for Tillsonburg were Matthew Weston, Kaine Geldart and Jake Brown. Mitchell Fitzmorris collected a pair of assists while single assists were given to Brown, Zak McQuade, Brendan Barletta and Weston.

The Rocks outshot the Thunder 42-37 and were scoreless on two power plays while Tillsonburg was scoreless on its lone power play.

Colin Dunne had 34 saves to get the win in the Elora net while Tillsonburg goalie Andre Roy had 37 saves.

The Rocks are to play the Stratford Fighting Irish at Stratford’s Allman Arena Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
