Elora Rocks roll over Alvinston again

ELORA – Another day, another one-sided victory for the Elora Rocks over the Alvinston Killer Bees in Western Ontario Super Hockey League play Saturday afternoon at the Elora and District Community Centre.

The Rocks followed their 16-0 triumph Friday night with a 15-2 win Saturday afternoon.

The Rocks scored four times in the final six minutes of the first period to open up an 8-2 lead. They added two more goals in the second period and five in the third.

The hosts dominated again, outshooting Alvinston 53-19. They held the Killer Bees to less than 10 shots in each period.

Alex Utley had three goals and two assists for the Rocks while Aaron Smith and Klayton Hoelscher each scored twice. Getting one goal apiece were Spencer Maccormack, Andrew Whalen, Luke Baleshta, Brad Krysko, Michael Giacometti, Jacob Black, Brock West and Yianni Skropolis.

Maccormack, Whalen and Baleshta each had three assists while Smith and Ed Gaffney had two each. Single assists were given to Hoelscher, Krysko, Giacometti, Zack Cameron and Matteo Condotta.

Avery Antone and Brendon Mcilvenna had a goal each for Alvinston while Sebastien Nogueira assisted on both. Antone also had an assist.

Ed Davey picked up the win in the Elora net with 17 saves.

Spencer Roibertson took the loss for the Killer Bees. He had 10 saves in the first period while Will Charon took over for the final two periods and had 28 saves.

The weekend sweep of Alvinston has pushed Utley into the league lead in points (21) and goals (11). He’s tied with teammate Baleshta for the lead in assists (10). Utley has an eight-point lead in the point-scoring race and a three-goal lead in the goal-scoring race.

Strathroy Jets lead the league at 6-0-0-0 while the Rocks are at 5-1-0-0. Tillsonburg Thunder are third at 3-2-0-0, Stratford Fighting Irish fourth at 2-4-0-1 and Alvinston fifth at 0-8-0-0.

The Rocks have three games left on their seven-game homestand as they’re to host Strathroy, Tillsonburg and Alvinston on consecutive Fridays starting next Friday. All three games carry 8:30 p.m. starting times.
