

Elora Rocks slip by Erin Blitz in overtime
ERIN – The Elora Rocks needed a goal in overtime to slip by the Erin Blitz 4-3 in WOSHL play Saturday night at Erin’s Centre 2000 arena.
It was the sixth meeting of the season between the teams and Elora won all six, but this one was the closest.

The Rocks had won the season opener for both teams 15-2 at Elora Sept. 30. Since then, the Rocks had defeated the Blitz by scores of 8-2 Oct. 15, 4-1 Oct. 28, 8-1 Jan. 6 and 7-3 Jan. 14.
Saturday, the Blitz led 2-1 at the end of the first period and 3-2 after the second.
The Rocks forced the overtime with the lone goal of the third period (at 13:54) and claimed the win with an unassisted goal by Brendan Woods with 29 seconds to go in the extra period.
Woods had scored the game’s first goal while Alex Uttley and Brett McInall also scored for Elora. Single assists were awarded to Spencer MacCormack, Mike Giacometti, McInall, Woods, Uttley and Mark Hamilton.
Joseph Franzin had two goals for Erin while Garrett Williams had one. They were the first goals of the season for both. Assists went to Jacob Coulson, Jeff White, Liam Galton, Lucas Schott and Beni Berisha.
The Blitz outshot the Rocks 43-29 and went 1-for-3 on their power play while the Rocks went 2-for-6.
Brayden Kelso had 25 saves for Erin while Colin Dunne had 40 for Elora.
The Rocks are tied for second in the nine-team league at 16-4-0-2 while the Blitz are eighth at 4-12-0-2.
The Blitz are to host the Delhi Flames (ninth at 2-12-0-4) Sunday at 3:30 p.m. and the Tillsonburg Thunder (fourth at 14-5-0-0) Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Both games are to be played at the Centre 2000 arena.
The Rocks, who have two games left in their regular season, are to play the Flames at Delhi Saturday at 8 p.m.
