Elora Rocks surprised by lowly Shallow Lake

SHALLOW LAKE – The Elora Rocks became the first team to lose to the Shallow Lake Crushers in Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s hockey play this season when they were edged 4-3 by their hosts at the Shallow Lake and District Community Centre Saturday night.

A goal with 3:16 to go in regulation time gave Shallow Lake the win.

The Crushers had led 2-1 at the end of the first period and 3-2 after the second before the Rocks tied it 11:35 to go in the period.

The Rocks had 16 players for the game including both goaltenders.

Kris Dobinson, Ryan Maksymyk and Shawn Lantz had a goal apiece for Elora while Sean Malone, Mark Rozak and Klayton Hoelscher each had one assist.

Jesse Bedard’s second goal of the game was the winner for Shallow Lake. Tyler Cunningham and Daniel Zweep also scored while single assists were recorded by Kody O’Connor, Connor Long, Reid Simmons, Cunningham, Justin McCrae and Bedard.

Craig Byford was charged with the loss in the Elora net while Allan Manary had the win for Shallow Lake.

The loss leaves Elora ninth at 5-7-0-1 while Shallow Lake is 14th at 1-11-0-0.

The Rocks are to play the Tavistock Royals () at Tavistock Saturday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
