Elora Rocks swept out of playoffs by Stratford

STRATFORD – The Elora Rocks saw their WOSHL season come to an end Saturday night when they were doubled 4-2 by the Stratford Fighting Irish at Stratford’s Allman Arena.

The win gave Stratford a four-game sweep of the defending champion Rocks in the best-of-seven semifinals.

The Fighting Irish scored a pair of goals in the first period before the Rocks cut the gap to a single goal with the lone goal of the second. However, the hosts struck for the eventual game-winner at 2:02 of the third. The Rocks cut the difference to one goal five minutes later, but the Fighting Irish completed the scoring in the game and the series with 2:52 to go in the third.

Blaize Bridges scored both goals for the Rocks while Alex Uttley assisted on both. Mike Giacometti and Shaun Pickering each had one assist.

Graham Brulotte had two goals for Stratford while Matt Fuller and Brody Smith also scored. Cooper Leitch and Cameron Stokes each had two assists while Dylan Buckholz, Zachary Tierney and Matt Granger had one apiece.

Stratford outshot the Rocks 40-35 with 20 of Elora’s shots coming in the second period.

Colin Dunne had 36 saves for Elora while Zack Weir had 33 saves for Stratford.

Both teams were scoreless on four power plays.

Stratford advances to play the winner of the other semifinal between the Tilbury Bluebirds and Tillsonburg Thunder. Tilbury leads that series 3-0 with Game 4 set for Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at Tillsonburg.
