Elora Rocks take sting out of Alvinston Killer Bees

ELORA – The Elora Rocks rebounded from their first loss in the Western Ontario Super Hockey League’s inaugural season in a big way Friday night at the Elora and District Community Centre as they clobbered the Alvinston Killer Bees 16-0.

The Rocks scored six times in the first period and four in the second on the way to the whitewash win.

The hosts completely dominated the game as they outshot their guests 34-4 in the first two periods and 49-12 overall.

Alex Utley led the Rocks with four goals while Charlie Stephens had a hat trick and Andrew Whalen and Trevor Lord added two goals apiece. Single goals were netted by Spencer Maccormack, Aaron Smith, Steven Dol, Mark Hamilton and Jacob Black.

Luke Baleshta assisted on five of the goals while Stephens had three assists and Utley, Maccormack, Smith, Dol, Jeremey Goodwin, Klayton Hoelscher and Matteo Condotta each had two. Whalen, Hamilton, Black, Luke Hoelscher and Michael Giacometti each had one.

Colin Dunne picked up the shutout win in net for the Rocks.

Spencer Robertson played the complete game in net for Alvinston. He had 33 saves.

Strathroy Jets lead the league at 6-0-0-0 while the Rocks are second at 4-1-0-0. Tillsonburg Thunder follow at 3-1-0-0 while the Stratford Fighting Irish are at 1-4-0-1 and Alvinston’s at 0-7-0-0.

The Rocks and Killer Bees are to play again Saturday at the Elora and District Community Centre. Game time is 1 p.m.
