Elora’s win streak halted by Stratford

STRATFORD – The winning streak of the Elora Rocks came to an end Saturday as they were dropped 7-3 by the Stratford Fighting Irish in Western Ontario Super Hockey League play at Stratford’s Allman Arena.

The Rocks had won their previous nine games, but none of those wins were over the Fighting Irish.

The Rocks and Fighting Irish had met twice in Elora’s first three games of the season, the Rocks winning both – 4-2 in Stratford Oct. 9 and 8-5 in Elora six days later.

Saturday, Stratford scored a pair of goals 1:11 apart midway through the first period to open the scoring and the Fighting Irish never trailed after that.

Stratford led 3-2 at the end of the first period and 5-2 after the second.

Brad Krysko, Steven Dol and Tye Campbell scored the goals for the Rocks while Spencer MacCormack had two assists and Trevor Lord, Krysko and Zack Cameron had one apiece.

Stratford received single goals from Matt Granger, Brett Denny, Ray Robbins, Brendon Merritt, Sean O’Brien, Tanner Fereira and Cameron Stokes. Graham Brulotte assisted on three of the goals while Fereira had two assists and Maverick Petrie, Andrew Bogdon, Zach Edwards, Tyson Kielt, Mitchell Casey and Robbins had one each.

The teams each had 30 shots on net. The Rocks went 1-for-5 on their power play while Stratford went 1-for-2.

Colin Dunne surrendered five goals on 20 shots in the first two periods while Anthony Marshall gave up the two third-period goals on 10 shots.

Nathan Torchia had 27 saves for Stratford.

The league-leading Rocks are to play the second-place Strathroy Jets at Strathroy’s West Middlesex Memorial Centre Friday at 7:30 p.m. in their final game before a three-week Christmas break.
