Emmanuel Christian claims girls’ soccer title

ORANGEVILLE – The Emmanuel Christian Eagles of Fergus again reign as District 4 high school soccer champions.

The Eagles claimed the title for the first time in five years with a 3-2 win in penalty kicks over the Westside Thunder of Orangeville in the league final Monday at

Emmanuel Christian had previously captured the league crown in 2012 and 2013.

Cayla Lodder scored all three goals for the Eagles including the winner in the fifth round of penalty kicks.

Makayla McBride and Emma Devins scored for Westside.

The Thunder had finished the regular season atop the league with a 5-0-1 record while the Eagles were second at 3-1-2.

Both teams advance to CWOSSA tournaments Wednesday and Thursday.

Emmanuel Christian will be in the CWOSSA A tournament at Delhi and will be in a group with the Waterford Wolves and Kincardine Knights for preliminary round play Wednesday.

Westside will be in the CWOSSA AA tournament at Brantford and in a group with the St. James Lions, St. Mary’s Mustangs of Owen Sound and Southwood Sabres of Cambridge for Wednesday’s preliminary pool play.

In both tournaments, the top two in each pool advance to the semifinals Thursday with the winners of those games meeting for the CWOSSA title later in the day.
