Emmanuel Christian clinches first in senior soccer

FERGUS — The Emmanuel Christian Eagles secured a first-place finish in the District 4 high school senior boys’ soccer league standings by battling the Westside Thunder to a 1-1 standoff Monday at Victoria Park in Fergus on the final day of the league’s regular season.

Curtis VanWoudenberg scored for Emmanuel Christian.

Daniel Chojak netted the goal for Westside.

Emmanuel Christian finished first at 3-0-3 while Westside was second at 2-1-3.

The league’s semifinals are set for Wednesday. Emmanuel Christian is to host Centre Dufferin at 3:30 p.m. at Victoria Park and Westside is to host Norwell at 2:30 p.m. in Orangeville.

Norwell received goals from Assane Arouna and Ry Kuper.

Alan Godbout scored for Centre Dufferin.

Josh Martin hit for a pair of goals for Norwell while Quintin McGill scored the other goal.

It was the second meeting between the teams in four days. They’ll meet again in the league’s semifinal match Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Centre Dufferin.
