Emmanuel Christian, Erin to meet in girls’ soccer final

FERGUS – It’ll be Eagles and Raiders in next week’s District 4 high school girls’ soccer league’s championship match.

The Emmanuel Christian Eagles of Fergus and the Erin Raiders posted victories in Wednesday’s semifinals to advance to the championship match.

The final is to go Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Victoria Park in Fergus.

Emmanuel Christian finished first at the end of the regular season with a 3-0-1 record while Erin was second at 3-1-0. Both teams scored 17 goals in the regular season while the Eagles yielded two and the Raiders gave up five.

The Eagles won the regular-season meeting between the two teams 2-1 May 11 on the Erin Public School field.

Emmanuel Christian will be looking for its first league title since 2018 and fourth overall while Erin will be after its first since 2017 and sixth overall.

Hanna VanSydenborgh connected for a pair of goals for the Eagles while Hailey VanSydenborgh scored the other one.

Charlotte Cuthbertson fired in all three goals for Erin.
