End-of-season honours for four Guelph Royals

GUELPH – Four members of the Guelph Royals were named to the Intercounty Baseball League’s all-star team for its 100th season.

Designated hitter Sean Reilly was the lone member of the Royals to be named a first-team all-star while outfielder Josh Garton, right-hand pitcher Yunior Yambatis and manager Dave teBoekhorst were named second-team all-stars.

A three-time winner of the league’s most valuable player award, Reilly hit .342 during the regular season with 12 homers and 36 RBIs. He was also walked 14 times and hit by 12 pitches and limited his strikeouts to 15.

Garton hit .346 with four homers, 17 RBIs and 10 walks.

Yambatis finished the season with a 5-3 record and he tossed four complete games. He had 75 strikeouts and 34 walks in 73 2/3 innings and had a 3.46 earned-run average.

TeBoekhorst guided the Royals to a 16-20 record in their return to IBL play after pulling out of the league midway through the 2017 season.

Catcher Justin Marra of the Toronto Maple Leafs was named the Rawlings IBL MVP for the season while Garret Takamatsu of the Leafs was the league’s rookie of the year.

Marra belted 10 homers and had 31 RBIs while hitting .353.

Takamatsu hit .320 with a homer, nine doubles and 17 RBIs.
