Erin Blitz see Bluebirds fly away in third period

ERIN – The Erin Blitz surrendered five goals in the third period as they suffered a 7-2 loss to the Tilbury Bluebirds in WOSHL play Saturday night at the Centre 2000 arena.

Fellow expansion squad Tilbury led 2-1 at the end of the second period before scoring twice in the first two minutes of the third.

Erin had scored the lone goal of the first period with 69 seconds to go in the frame. Tilbury responded with two goals in the second.

Jacob Miller and Liam Galton each had a goal and an assist for the Blitz while Chris Prejet and Mike Kri each had an assist.

Vyacheslav Chegrintsev had two goals and two assists for Tilbury while single goals were added by Cole Chevalier, Travis Winkworth, Erik Winter, Adam Hughes and Dylan Denomme. Chevalier, Kyler Carter and Denomme each had two assists while Frederick Corp, Winkworth, Mitchell Van Teeling and Winter had one each.

The Bluebirds won despite having 15 players suited up for the game, including the two goaltenders. The Blitz had 19.

Erin outshot Tilbury 49-42, but were scoreless on five power plays while the Bluebirds went 2-for-4 on their power play and they also scored a shorthanded goal.

Brayden Kelso had 42 saves in the Erin net while Ryan Polidori had 47 for Tilbury.

The teams are at the opposite ends of the nine-team league’s standings as the Bluebirds lead at 9-1-0-0 and the Blitz trail at 0-8-0-0.

The Blitz are to play a pair of road games next weekend against the other two expansion teams as they’re to tangle with the Delhi Flames (2-8-0-0) in Delhi Saturday at 8 p.m. and take on the Plattsville Lakers (3-6-0-0) at Plattsville Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
